HISTORY OF THE CITIZENS ACADEMY:
The Oklahoma Citizens Academy was created in 2002 by the Oklahoma Community Institute with the vision of providing the state with a growing population of engaged and informed citizens prepared and committed to build and sustain strong communities. Since its inception, more than 100 Oklahomans have graduated from the program and are sharing successes based on their Citizens Academy experience.
DESCRIPTION OF THE CITIZENS ACADEMY/LEADERSHIP TRAINING:
The Oklahoma Municipal League (OML) is pleased to announce the launch of the 2012-2013 Citizens' Academy/Leadership Training. This Academy preserves and enhances training and educational opportunities for municipal officials and local citizens that were previously provided by the Oklahoma Community Institute after they were unable to continue operating last fall.
The focus of the program is specifically on equipping the participants with the skills and information they need to make a positive impact on local community and economic development. Participants in the Citizens Academy/Leadership Training program learn valuable skills in the areas of teamwork, community assessment and planning, economic development and tourism, community renewal and working with elected officials.
Class I Final Projects - Municipal Government Week Ideas
The 2012-2013 Citizens Academy Leadership Training (CALT) Class presented their final group projects at Session VI of the program, which was held in conjunction with the 2013 Municipal Government Day at the Capitol. The assignment was to develop an Oklahoma Municipal Government Week Celebration for an Oklahoma Municipality. The groups did a terrific job in presenting these ideas, some using existing municipalities and others creating their very own.
