Why your company should invest in Affiliate Membership
in the Oklahoma Municipal League
A non-profit association, the Oklahoma Municipal League, with a membership of over 400 cities and towns, represents more than 97 percent of Oklahoma's urban population. Organized in 1913, its purpose is to promote the general welfare of cities and towns and their citizens and to foster or conduct, alone or in cooperation with others, assistance that will provide for the improvement and increased efficiency of city and town government.
The League provides a variety of services to its member municipalities and their officials. These services include maintaining a reference library; sponsoring conferences, meetings and training programs; offering a variety of personnel and labor relations services; promoting state and federal legislation helpful to local governments; answering inquiries and producing numerous publications.
The League’s Affiliate membership was created for individuals or organizations wishing to avail themselves of League publications, meeting notices and opportunities to meet with municipal officials. The program was designed to encourage the exchange of ideas and information between officials from the League’s member municipalities and organisations and individuals that are interested in local government.
Affiliate members must agree to support the Oklahoma Municipal League’s mission to promote the general welfare of Oklahoma cities and towns and their citizens and to endorse and support state and national policies and programs which may be beneficial to cities and towns and to oppose such as may be injurious to them. Affiliates do not, however, have a voice or role in determining OML business or policy matters.
Affiliate members must strive to secure harmonious actions among Oklahoma municipalities, other governments, and other groups in all matters which affect the rights and duties of Oklahoma municipalities. Affiliate members must promote constructive and cooperative intergovernmental relations by maintaining mutually supportive relationships with groups representing local, state and regional governments.
Affiliate organizations must be approved by the OML board and such Affiliate status will continue until terminated by the Affiliate or the OML board.
The cost of joining the Oklahoma Municipal League as an Affiliate member is $500 per year. An Affiliate member organisation can place additional names on the mailing list for $75 per name. Once established as an Affiliate member, the organization is automatically billed for membership renewal annually.
For additional information, call 528-7515 locally, 1-800-324-6651 long distance or e-mail to Jimi Layman at OML.
